Ayse Lee-Robinson MD has developed a unique healing program which is not "just" Physical Therapy nor "just" non surgical Disc decompression therapy but rather a truly unique program which incorporates the "best elements" from traditional Physical Therapy, non surgical Disc decompression therapy and the 20+ years of experience Ayse Lee-Robinson MD has in overall Rehabilitation. The result is an innovative, specialized and comprehensive healing program. For the non surgical Disc decompression portion of the overall program, Ayse Lee-Robinson choose the Accu-SPINA IDD Therapy which is the "State of the Art" equipment in this field.
Ayse Lee-Robinson’s Unique Approach- "The Difference Maker!"
Using her 20+ years of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine and Neuromuscular Medicine experience and Board Certification knowledge as a "Specialist" in these area, Ayse Lee-Robinson MD, has combined the best and most effective elements of these specialties with traditional Physical Therapy and IDD decompression therapy to develop a unique and very successful program to "heal the source" of neck and back pain.
The most important part of the overall program is the personal time Ayse Lee-Robinson MD spends one on one with each patient, not only at the beginning of the program, but throughout the entire program. In this hectic age you will not find another Doctor who is as thorough, caring and who will spend as much one on one time with her patients to ensure that she, and all the staff, is doing all they can to properly diagnosis, monitor and heal each individual patient. Each patient receives a very individualized program specifically designed to heal their pain. This is only possible due to the time Ayse Lee-Robinson MD spends with each patient coupled with her extensive diagnostic training.
"Healing the Source" of neck, back and radicular symptoms often require multiple interventions: sometimes to both the neck and back. Usually a combination of medications, Physical Therapy treatments, IDD Therapy, work and lifestyle medications, weight management and daily exercise is needed for successful long term healing.
Our Physical Therapy program includes a combination of electrical stimulation, neuromuscular re-education of core muscles, Intervertebral Disc Decompression (IDD), therapeutic exercises & activities, guided imagery, ultrasound, myofascial release, neck & back support braces and daily exercise programs to allow maximal healing and resolution of symptoms. IDD therapy is a highly precise computerized system that allows application of gentle distraction forces to intervertebral segments resulting is 5 to 7 mm. of distraction. This causes an intradiscal pressure drop from +25 mm to -150 mm of mercury and promotes the diffusion of water, oxygen and nutrients into compressed areas allowing healing with re-hydration of displaced Discs and injured tissues.
Our Exercise and Therapeutic Activities program utilizes a complement the Physical Therapy and IDD Disc decompression Therapy program by reducing ongoing and uncontrolled damaging forces to the spine so healing can continue with long lasting results. The design of the spine and everyday activities is such that the spine is at high risk of injury especially once is has sustained significant injury. For example current research shows that:
The neuromuscular & therapeutic exercise program incorporated with the IDD decompression treatment regiment allows for the safest and most mechanically justifiable approach to enhancing lumbar stability through exercise with emphasize on endurance and strength. They ensure maintenance of a neutral spine throughout the day with all activities. Our therapeutic activity program is designed to educate, instruct and train patients in proper body mechanics with daily tasks. Easy modifications of the home & work environment and utilization proper body mechanics during all daily activities will significantly reduce the daily repeated trauma and stress to the spine. Analysis and modification of work environment is thus sought as needed.
- Improper lifting of an object weighing just 20 lbs exert 560 lbs of force on the lumbar spine or low back.
- Tightening your abdominal muscles while lifting will increase your abdominal pressure and decrease the stress on your lumbar & spine by up to 50%.
- Improving the endurance rather than strength of abdominal and core muscles is more important in reducing the “stress” on the spine throughout the day.
- Poor Posture significantly increases the risk of neck and back injuries
Often 6 to 10 weeks of therapy is needed for optimal improvements. Usually treatments are scheduled daily (M-F) the first few weeks and are then reduced to 3 times per week for several weeks as symptoms become intermittent. The last few weeks the treatments are scheduled for twice per week as symptoms resolve.
Research shows that for non-complicated sources of neck and back pain the success rate is 92%. If complicated, with previous surgery, scar tissue or multiple spine levels of injury the success rate is 80%.
The Evaluation Process
The evaluation of this Treatment Program includes a thorough neuromuscular and musculoskeletal examination. Then any needed diagnostic work-up to determine the intervertebral pathology and mechanical dynamics causing the spinal and radicular symptom is recommended and secured. This evaluation process is crucial in determining the different etiologies of the bothersome presenting symptoms. Once the etiologies are determined Ayse Lee-Robinson M.D. will generate the needed treatment programs to "Heal the Source" of the symptoms and reduce recurrence.
What is IDD Therapy?
IDD Therapy stands for Intervertebral Disc Decompression Therapy. This is a proven non-surgical, non-invasive treatment for the relief of lower back pain and neck pain. It is an innovative approach for the relief of:
- Neck or Low Back
- Herniated discs
- Bulging discs
- Spinal stenosis
- Posterior facet syndrome
- Degenerative Disc Disease
- Entrapped Nerve Roots
- Acute or chronic neck and back pain
IDD Therapy was developed by a team of back specialists including neurosurgeons, orthopedists, physiatrists, osteopaths, neurologists, and physical therapists. It is a safe, painless and comfortable treatment. IDD Therapy with the Accu-SPINA has been tested on thousands of patients in the last six years and found to be 86% successful in relieving lower back pain and neck pain symptoms.
IDD Therapy works by isolating a single disc level and gently separating the vertebrae surrounding an injured disc with stenosis, facet dysfunction, 5 to 7 millimeters creating negative pressure (or a vacuum) inside the disc. This negative pressure pulls water, oxygen, and nutrients into the vertebral disc area, thereby re-hydrating the degenerated disc and relieving entrapment of surrounding elements. The IDD Therapy treatment can reduce pressure on the vertebral joints, promotes retraction of herniated, displaced & protruding discs, and encourage self healing and rehabilitation of damaged discs and surrounding area, thereby relieving the associated neck or low back pain. Twenty to thirty sessions are required to achieve optimal results. However, because the Accu-SPINA procedure is non-invasive, most IDD Therapy patients can carry-on with normal daily activities as they receive their treatments.
What makes Accu-SPINA unique from other decompression models?
IDD Therapy began with the advent of non-surgical decompression, developed in 1989. Since that time, technology and computer software have continuously evolved. The Accu-SPINA system has unique programming and monitoring features that allow a much smoother and more precise delivery of decompression treatment. The Accu-SPINA is also capable of highly unique treatment modalities not possible on conventional decompression machines. The Accu-SPINA treatment is able to achieve several objectives:
- It helps reduce the pressure on the affected disc.
- It enhances disc health by creating a vacuum within the disc allowing the oxygen flow essential for disc health. This is accomplished through the use of a cyclical decompression and relaxation producing a spinal pumping effect.
- It relaxes and re-educates muscles that are in spasm through a unique secondary oscillation delivered to the surrounding muscle tissue at the peak of decompression.
All this is performed while you rest comfortably in a soothing glow of light, listening to relaxing music. A heated massage bed feature assures that you will complete your treatment session feeling refreshed.
